Ski and Sail - Lyngen Alps Norway

Ski Lyngen and surrounding islands from a private sailboat with an IFMGA mountain guide.

Lyngen ski and sail expedition

Want to wake up in a new location every single day? Join our Ski & Sail expedition in Lyngen!

Deep within the Arctic Circle, we explore remote areas that cannot be reached by road. Access by boat allows us to ski the most untouched parts of Lyngen, offering an adventure defined by solitude, nature, and wildlife.

The Ski and Sail Experience

We usually ski the wild northeast side of Lyngen, as well as outer islands like Kågen, Vannøya, Arnøya, and Laukøya. Dinghy landings are always on the menu, as we generally avoid ski touring from mainstream harbors.

Wildlife thrives in these fjords. After a week in nature, chances are high that you have spotted dolphins, sea eagles, otters, and whales. After skiing, keen fishermen can often catch fresh fish for our dinner!

Our home for the week is a newly renovated sailboat, specifically designed for Arctic ski and sail expeditions. Every day of ski touring concludes with well-earned dinner and drinks on board as we relocate to our next destination.

Best time

End of February till end of April.

Ability

Ski touring beginners to advanced ski mountaineers.

Ascent/descent is adapted to group ability, avalanche safety, weather and snow conditions.

Ski Touring off Sailboat in Lyngen

Duration

Season

Group Size

max 6 pers

Price

From €3730

On our Lyngen Ski & Sail expedition, we board the sailboat in Tromsø for 6 nights at sea and 6 full days of skiing.

We operate two nearly identical sailboats. Rebuilt in 2025, they are specifically designed for Arctic ski and sail expeditions. They are exceptionally warm, dry, well-insulated, and comfortable for this type of adventure.

Life On Board

The Boats: 15 meters long, featuring 3 double cabins for guests (5 cabins in total).
Amenities: 2 toilets and 2 showers. With a 2,000-liter freshwater tank and an onboard watermaker, regular showers are never an issue.
Safety: Built from robust aluminum and equipped with twin engines for maximum safety.
The Crew: Every trip includes a crew of 3: a captain, a deckhand, and an IFMGA mountain guide.

Note: which boat you get depends on availability, we use these same vessels for our Svalbard Ski and Sail expeditions.

Our Tip: For extra luxury - booking as a group of 3: Each person gets their own private cabin!
As a group of 4: Two guests get private cabins, and two share the largest cabin.
A smaller group also allows for a more tailored, comfortable pace - especially if you want to tackle more advanced ski touring and ski mountaineering.

Skiing terrain

During the ski and sail week we usually explore the areas that cannot be reached by road – the wild northeast side of Lyngen and the outer islands such as Kagen, Vanoya, Arnoya, Laukoya and Ulloya.

On a day of ski touring we might ascend anything between 500 and 1800hm, depending on what you wish to do. Descent options are often numerous and can be adapted to your wishes and level of skiing.

Our decisions of skiing route and which summits to climb are based on group ability, avalanche safety, weather and snow conditions.

We are happy to host skiers of all levels; from the ski touring beginner to the very advanced ski mountaineer.

Your mountain- & ski guide

All ski guides working with us are IFMGA qualified and have very good knowledge of the area.
