Located in the Northern part of Iceland the Troll peninsula is a ski touring paradise. The mountains raise straight from the sea and many of them are around 1200m+, the highest one is Kerlinggarfjöll (1538m). Dark blue fjords and white mountains make for quite a contrast and the view gets better and better the higher we climb.
Middle of April is when the winter storms have passed and spring arrives slowly to the Troll peninsula. This is also the prime time for ski touring in the north of Iceland. It hardly gets dark at night and the temperatures stay the same during the day. This makes often for perfect spring skiing conditions that time of year.
Iceland Ski Touring Week
For this guided ski touring week we base ourselves in the small fishing town of Sigulfjordur.
Level: All levels of skiers/boarders, from the very beginner to the very expert.
Best time: Last 2 week of April and first 2 weeks of May
Sunday: In the afternoon / early evening your guide pick you up in Akureyri. The drive from the airport is just over 1h to our accommodation in Sigulfjordur.
Monday to Saturday: 6 guided ski days.
Saturday afternoon: Return to Akureyri after skiing, early evening flight to Reykjavik, where we spend the last night before returning home on Sunday.
Special Note: In Rekjavik the international airport and domestic airport are quite far apart. We have adapted our schedule according to flight times, but as we work with private groups only we are also pretty flexible.
Comfortable 4 bedroom house in the center of Sigulfjordur, 155m2 (3 bedrooms are for you). The house has a large living and kitchen area as well as a nice terrace and garden with a BBQ.
Most evening we will cook together and enjoy having a great fish shop close by as well as a BBQ on our terrace. However, we can also explore the local restaurants in Sigulfjordur.
