mountaineering Zermatt At lunch time we started from Zermatt and are now on the way to the Rothorn Hütte. The aproach to the refuge is a long, but very beautiful walk.(about 1500hm)
Monte Rosa massif The higher we get the better the view onto the Monte Rosa massif. With the Breithorn, Castor, Pollux, Lyscam and the Dofurspitze.
mountaineer Rothorn hutte The next morning we start early. 3.30 breakfast!
sunrise Matterhorn At 5 o´clock the first sun rays hit the Matterhorn.
mountaineering Zinalrothorn We are now climbing up the steep snow slopes behind the refuge.
ascent Zinalrothorn At about 7 we reach the base of the final technical section of the Zinal Rothorn and we also see the summit for the first time.
climbing Zinalrothorn Eva and me are progressing with good speed, climbing in short pitches up the first coloir of mixed snow and rock.
rock section Zinalrothorn The climb contains a short section of solid rock and then...
snow field Zinalrothorn ...the axes comes in handy again on an exposed snow field.
summit ridge Zinalrothorn Finally seeing the summit ridge, we are sure to reach our goal for the day.
summit Zinalrothorn On the summit we are enjoying the splendid view of the Alps between Mt Blanc and Matterhorn while eating our well earned kitcat.
climbing summit ridge We get a nice shot of our friends Jonas and Jimmy coming upp the snow field, not too far behind us.
glacier rothorn hutte After down climbing the summit ridge and rappelling the endless amount of short pitches, we are safely down on the glacier above the refuge again.
hiking Zermatt The walk back to Zermatt is very long with tierd legs, but is managed thanks to some playing and cooling of our sore feets on the way.
