Mounain Spirit Guiding
We just arrived in Yosemity valley with our brand new purchase a Subaru 85. Sorting the gear and packing the bags for our first climb.
About an hours walk takes us to the base of Washington Coloumn. The climb followes the white line in the center of the face.
THE PROW and the steep South-east Face of Washington Column.
The second pitch is the most difficult one according to the guide book. C3. Lots of micro nuts, pin scars and some fixed copperheads.
It took a while but finally I arrive at the belay just below a small roof. It is now raining, but the rock is so overhanging that we don´t get wet.
The next morning it is still raining and we start climbing at about 10 o´clock. Peje is allready at the 3rd belay and I get to clean pitch 3.
Pitch 4: A short bolt leather and then lots of small gear. I take my first fall on aid climbing but luckily only 2 peaces pop. Scary. I get back up, this time I pass with a cam hook move where I fell before. More micro nuts, some fixed copperheads, a hook move and some more fixed heads.A bit shaky I arrive at the belay.
Pitch 5. Peje starts of on fixed copperheads towards a bolt ladder. A micro nut a hook move and Peje is at the next belay. Its getting late, we climbed 3 pitches today and Peje sets of for the last pitch of the day...
Looking down onto my belay from Pejes view. What a great place! It is now time to prepere for the night.
Peje has disapeared into the dark and I get to figure out how to set up our portaledge.
It takes me a little while but by the time Peje arrives at the belay the ledge is up we are ready to have dinner.
The next day we start early. The sun is shining and we are in good spirit. We have 6 pitches left to the top.
On aid climbing the progess is not always the fastest , I guess Peje got a bit bored on the belay.
But we are mooving upwards.
The last pitches are easier and we get to do some free climbing.
Great views from high up on the climb towards Half Dome.
We top out just before sunset and decide to spend the night on the top. What a perfect bivi!
I wake up early and get some more shots from our bivi by sunrise.
The next day we decent North Dome Gully back down to Yosemity valley.
Through the trees at the bottom we get another good look from the side onto our climb. Great fun!
