and off we are on the Glenn highway towards Urika!

From the car we get a first look onto the Chugach mountains.

Spring is arriving in the valleys, but there is still ice on the Matnuska river.

The Matnuska glacier and the Skandinavia peaks in the back ground.

Night at sheep mountain lodge, last gear check and tomorrow morning we will meet our bush pilot.

Mike and his Piper Super Cub arrive, we pack the gear into the plane. One by one we fligh onto the glacier.

In the air with Mike; always a great experience!

The further we fligh the better the conditions look. Here a run I have skied with Phil in 2004.

Mike drops me off on the upper Nelchina Glacier where I start to set our base camp.The weather is not great but we hope to get everybody in.

Tim arrives next, finally some help setting up camp!

Lots of digging...we want to have a nice camp! and storm proove!

Mattias who is not partucular in love with flighing just before the take off. Double snus I guess?

Lucky us, Mattias arrived well. The beer is home safe!

Final building inspection; everybody arrived, camp is ready and Mike has left. Hopefully he will be back in a week!

Time for a beer after all that hard work.

Even though the weather is not great anymore we decide to go for a quick afternoon ski behind the camp. Tim climbing up the couloir. and Caroline in the background.

Tim, just about to cross the Bergshrund. Good snow a bit of flat light and we can ski straight into our kitchen.

Everybody gets to build his own personal toilet, to my right Mattias has build a whole health spa!

day 2: Ready to go ski!

Not long and we disapear into the cloud. Where to...?

Ah,...a bit later it cleared up.

To steep to skin...skis on the back pack.

Back in Camp, maybe a little tired?

The sun disaperars, the temperatur drops down to -20°C and Mattias is learning how to fligh.

For more comfort especially once the sun disappears we decide to build an Igloo.

The Igloo is almost finished,... at least the bar is; lets go ski!

It is cold and the ski boots need to be prewarmed to be able to get them onto our feet. No problem, for our multi purpose kitchen!

Back in camp and we found allready a new objektive. Quick lunch and we are ready to go again.

We decided to ski the coloirs closest to our camp.

Ups...too fast; the swedish rabbit hat has left the head!

Tim is setting himself and the kitchen on fire. We cant blame him it is very cold! The tempersture drops down to -30°C this night.

Cold, clear and quiet looking back onto our day.

The next morning the air prassure dropped 60mbar and a strong storm hit our camp. Anker the tents...

...and lets move into our Iglu!

Anybody home? Tim are you in there?

On our last evening it cleared up, the barometer is still low. Will Mike be able to pick us up tomorrow? Will the weather last?

What a perfect day to go ski, we got a lot of fresh snow as you can see on Tims tent!

Unfortunatly we are leaving.

Finally I am allowed to check the stability of our iglu.

So many mountains, so much to ski, it is hard to leave!

Allready on the way to Valdez. Great views from the road on Thompsons pass!

Caroline is having a quick safety inspection of our heli. Almost as good as Mike´s Piper Super Cub...

Excited...Mattias mostly about being in the air again?

Valdez got hit by the same storm as us on the glacier. Perfect snow for us.

All right Tim, this looks very relaxing.

On the way back to Anchorage we got a great look at the Wrangels. 10 days of great fun in Alaska!
