A fun week of mountaineering in early August, culminated with a 3-day trip to Grindelwald where we climbed Eiger and Monch.
Wolfgang climbed the Mittelegi ridge on Eiger with Alex, joined by Thor and Fatima. They completed the traverse by descending the south ridge. The night after was spent in Mönchsjochhutte where they met up with Alex’s father Jamie. They then climbed the east ridge of Mönch the next day, before descending to Jungfraujoch and taking the Jungfraubahn back down to Grindelwald.
The traverse of the Eiger is a long and committing day in the high mountains. Once you are on the summit you are a bit less then half way.
The normal route on Monch is a fairly accessible classic, yet in the conditions we found the climb this day, it was not an easy summit to reach. The final snow ridge to was very narrow and very exposed after the warm summer we had.
We offer a 5-day Eiger and Monch program, where you get to climb two beautiful classics in Chamonix as warm-up for the Mittelegi ridge.
