Chamonix Classic Rock Climbs
Summer in Chamonix offers the perfect playground for all kinds of rock adventures. On one side of the valley we have the Aiguilles Rouges and on the other, the Mont Blanc mountain range and the Aiguilles de Chamonix. You find multi-pitch rock routes of various length and difficulty.
Down the valley we also have the option to climb multi-pitch routes on big limestone walls. And a selection of high quality sport climbing crags is spread around Chamonix for all levels of rock climbing.
To learn how to become an independent climber please also see our alpine climbing courses and rock climbing trips.

Guided Alpine Rock Routes In Chamonix
Climbing in the Aiguilles Rouges is special. Touching the warm rock in T-shirt and shorts with the beautiful backdrop of Mt Blanc and its massive icecap is an unforgettable experience. Opposite in Les Aiguilles de Chamonix, lines along cracks and slabs take you up the big granite faces. Even higher up in the Mt Blanc range we find many classic alpine rock routes. Some of the world's most spectacular granite pillars raise right off the snowy glaciers.
Completing the list of alpine classics in Chamonix is a life time project, but some nice climbs of varying difficulty that we recommend are:
- Nabot Léon or L'eau Rince d'Arabie on Aiguille de Blatière
- Vaucher/Contamine or Maillon Manquante on Aiguille de Peigne

Sport Climbing & Rock Climbing Schools
A high variety of single-pitch rock climbing lies within the Chamonix valley as well as in the Aosta valley. Sport climbing is possible with a bigger group and/or mixed levels. Our aim is to teach you all safety aspects of rock climbing and make you progress in your activity, while guiding you to the nicest crags for your level of climbing.
Chamonix has well arranged sport climbs and multi-pitch routes also for complete beginners and is one of the few places in continental Europe where you can climb in the sun during July/Aug.
Climbing courses for all levels:
- Rock climbing initiation day: having fun and learning the basics of rock climbing.
- Stepping up and becoming independent: technical progress, lead climbing, rappelling, rope handling, belaying, multi-pitch climbing etc.
- Perfection: In order to take your rock climbing to a higher level we’ll evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and work on physical, mental, technical and tactical qualities. Both sport climbing and bouldering are ideal activities.
